Growing up on a small farm in rural Ireland, Cat had a passion for plants and nature from a young age. That passion led her to eventually study for a MSc in Organic Horticulture at University College Cork. Shortly after that she secured a year long horticulture internship at the renowned Ballymaloe House and Cookery school, working closely with the head gardener and various chefs on site.
Upon completing the internship, Cat moved to Canada in 2014 and began working in the field of landscape maintenance and design for local Vancouver companies, during which time she gained valuable practical skills and also became a certified arborist with ISA.
In 2020, with a desire to be more creative, Cat founded Highfield Horticulture and studied for a diploma in Garden Design with Oxford College of Garden design. She is excited to be able to bring all of her experience to the table to help clients design, execute and maintain their dream gardens.
Horticulture is the science and art of developing and cultivating food and ornamental plants. Unlike many art pieces, gardens are distinctly dynamic and constantly evolving before your eyes. It encompasses not only the plants themselves but the entire ecosystem within that space. The ability to blend nature with design is a hugely exciting and rewarding creative experience.
